“ALERT: Unexpected object registered. Initiating cryonic wakeup process.
“Unidentified star in our path, Captain. Route adjustment necessary. Data collection is in progress, but it appears to be a young star.”
“L.I.N.U.S., how did this happen? Did our path change? Current coordinates? Urgh, this post-cryo headache is brutal.”
“Yes, sir. Coordinates are 0.7.x.34 in the Delta quadrant of the Indigo system. Scheduled wakeup was in 3 more standard rotations upon reaching the Gamma quadrant.”
“Sergeant, get to the nav panel. L.I.N.U.S., how long do we have to get back on course?”
“50 seconds, sir.”
“Captain, this system is unmapped and not in the navlib. Gathering readings now.”
“Heard, sarge. I have eyes on the star and a planet from the bridge. Update on what caused our trajectory change.”
“A port thruster malfunctioned one rotation ago. It is unclear why my systems did not catch it earlier.”
“No time. Techs can get to it if we survive.”
“Captain, mapping complete. It’s a young system with a star and four planets. Best landing candidate is the second. Better terrain and more oxygen in the atmosphere. It’s on the other side of the star. We need to navigate around it, escape it’s gravity, and reduce speed enough to come in safely.”
“L.I.N.U.S. calculate the route. Shut down the corresponding starboard thruster to balance us out.”
“Route identified. We will need to get within 10 miles of the star’s surface. There is a chance the heat damages the ship further or even knocks me out.”
“Sarge, download the route so we have it. I’ll take over controls if you crash, L.I.N.U.S.”
“Thank you, sir. Human-dependent navigation reduces chances of success by 28%. Stay on course for 10 seconds before redirecting power to port thrusters. Five, four, three, two, one. Engaging. Exiting-g-g the st-st-sta….”
“L.I.N.U.S.?? Assuming controls. Sarge, route update.”
“Reduce thruster power, sir. We’re online, but coming in too hot!”
“Reduced to 20%. Lost another port thruster with the redirect. We’ll have to land wherever we can, no spotfinding without L.I.N.U.S. Entering atmosphere in three, two, one. Hold on!”
“Losing power in the stabilizers. We need to get down soon!”
“Plateau identified ahead. Speed reduced enough for landing gear, but it’ll be rough. Buckle up! Urgh.”
“Oof. We did it. I’ll wake up the techs.”
“Thanks sarge. Time to name this system.”
